Fine-Tuning the Experience
We have been operating our own homestay program since the very beginning of the International Student Program. Over the years we have gained considerable experience and expertise, and parents of International Students can be assured that we do our best to ensure student safety and comfort. Our carefully selected host families open their hearts and homes to enable students to experience Canadian Culture first hand.
Because of the strong sense of community, Langley has many families who support our program. Families have comfortable homes where students are warmly included and made to feel like they are one of the family.
They are carefully screened before being allowed to host our students, are required to attend information sessions, and are given comprehensive handbooks to guide them. Families must provide:
- A private room with a bed, desk and lamp, and a dresser.
- Three substantial meals a day and snacks.
- Most families live within a 15-minute walk from the school. Families living further away are obligated to drive the students to school.
On our Homestay application, details are asked relating to the family; the more detail provided, the greater the opportunity to find a close family-student match. Students may want to prioritize their preferences in general and important factors in particular. When a family has been selected, an email will be sent to the student with a profile and a picture of the family and their residence. In this manner, the student is able to view his or her new home, and can start to make direct contact with the new family.
