Families / Matching Students and Families / Homestay Reports / Fees

We have been operating our own homestay program since the very beginning of the International Student Program. Over the years we have gained considerable experience and expertise, and parents of International Students can be assured that we do our best to ensure student safety and comfort. Our carefully selected host families open their hearts and homes to enable student to experience Canadian Culture first hand.

Families

Because of Langley’s strong sense of community, we have many families who support our program. Families have comfortable homes, and students are included and made to feel like they are one of the family.
They are carefully screened before being allowed to host our students, and attend information sessions and are given comprehensive handbooks to guide them. Families must provide:

  • A private room with a bed, desk and lamp, and a dresser.
  • 3 substantial meals a day and snacks.
  • Most families live 10 – 15 minutes walk from the schools.  If families live further away they must drive the students to school.

Matching Students and Families

We ask for details about students in our homestay application – the more detail you can provide, the better chance we will have of finding a close match for a family. Students may want to prioritize what are the most important factors for them.  When we have selected a family for you we will email you a profile with pictures so that you may see your new home, and start to make contact with your new family.

Homestay Reports

After students settle in we interview new students in our homestays to see how they are doing. Copies of this report are sent to students’ families and agents so they can see how the student is settling in. International Coordinators in the schools check with students on an ongoing basis to see how things are going in the homestay.

We stress that our homestays are HOME stays, not hotel stays. Students will benefit from the care and support of the family, and will have great opportunities to practice their English. It is important that students participate in family life as much as possible in order to benefit from this experience.

Homestay Fees

  • CA$750 per month paid directly to the homestay family.
