Langley’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers first-year university level courses to secondary students. Langley students challenge themselves by choosing one or more courses of AP subjects from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Students are awarded university credit when they score 3 or higher.

  • The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is offered at most secondary schools (Aldergrove, Brookswood, D.W. Poppy, Langley Fine Arts, Langley Secondary and Walnut Grove); the only exceptions are R.E Mountain and Langley Fundamental Secondary
  • Advanced Placement (AP) Programs are offered in: Languages – English, English Literature; Social Studies – Psychology, History; Visual and Performing Arts – Studio Art; Mathematics – Calculus; Science – Chemistry, Biology, Physics

Benefits of Advanced Placement:

  • Increases eligibility for scholarships and appeals to universities
  • Receives university recognition and credit; subsequently saves on tuition
  • Shortens time spent in university, hence enabling time to spend pursuing other interests, e.g. double major
  • Prepares students for university expectations and study habits
  • Improves writing skills and problem-solving techniques
  • Offers the option to challenge select specific subjects
  • Advanced Placement (AP) programs are transferable to schools offering an identical course

International students have the opportunity to begin their full credit university studies while studying in Grade 12. The following secondary schools offer enriched courses that are accepted as first-year credits in universities across Canada and the United States:

Aldergrove Community Secondary
Brookswood Secondary
D.W. Poppy Secondary
